As some of you may or may not know, I have become rather active lately in the HubPages community. Although I have have been a member for over a year now, only recently have I been actively publishing on the site. I have tried "going it alone" with personal blog, and my domain spaces, but I just wasn't happy with earning or results. It seems like every day traffic increases to my hubs which in turn increases my earnings. Now I'll be very blunt here, I'm certainly not an expert at SEO or any of the other methods, but instead I'm more of a "Grass Roots" kinda guy. With that being said, there is no magic ticket for increasing traffic to your hubs, it take handwork and some scouring the internet to increase your visibility.
Now with that being said here is how I have been managing to steadily increase traffic:
StumbleUpon is a great way to get more traffic! It take awhile to really get into the swing of the service, but if you are familiar with the concept of "Hopping Hubs" which I often do, this is very much the same concept. People submit links based on interests, and you simply browse from article to article. It also has a bit of a Pandora type feel because there are like and dislike buttons. This enables the system to better find relevant content based on your interests. If you start adding links to stumbleupon, you will find that visitors to your hubs are interested in your content and should have more engaging discussions instead of someone just reading a catchy title or headline.
Private Forums are also a great way to get targeted directed traffic to your articles. For example, if you just wrote an in-depth article on ways to save money, you might want to google couponing forums. In general since couponers are always up for saving money, they might be interested in your article, where they may not have previously googled for it. The same goes for specialized hubs. Lets say you are installing a new transmission in your Jeep, and wanted to write up a quick success story on hub pages. Great, but why not also cross promote on Jeep enthusiast forums as well. A few things to consider are that most private forums require a registration and can generate quite a bit of email. Be sure to take the time and add a profile about yourself if the forum allows it, and be sure to add your hub pages address into your signature if links are OK. Every time you post something, you'll have a link back to your hubs! In addition, some forums require you actually become active on a site before you can post links. This doesn't mean posting "Post #1" and "Post #2" bam here's my link in post #3. Actually become an active member in the community before posting something, it makes you less of a spammer and more of an actual person.
Email, while we are on the subject, is another great way to improve visibility online. Take a few moments to add your hub pages domain into your email signature. You can make it classy and not obnoxious. Now I'm certainly not mentioning SPAM here, but whenever you send a funny joke to your friends, or notify them about something new in your life, you are also showing off your hub pages address. Remember, if they forward your message in its entirety to their list of friends, it's even more exposure. One more email related piece of advice: get a separate email address when signing up for forums and private resources. Again these can generate tons of email traffic into your inbox, and you may not want to have to sift through it.
Facebook is the last frontier that I actually get traffic from. Just like private forums, there are groups you can join, as well as posting directly to your fiends. I'm unique that most of my friends on Facebook are actually friends I have in real life and I don't seek out virtual followers on this site. If you do though, you can really spike interest in articles. You would be surprised just how many of your fiends actually read what you write if it's right in front of them!
