Publish At Specific Times To Increase Your Site Traffic

I have seen many questions posted to hub pages about when is the best time to publish hubs to generate the most traffic, and in turn generate the most revenue from impressions and ads. The answers that I have read very greatly depending on the person and what type of writing they do. Most answers are broken down into two categories: It doesn't matter, and Publish on weekdays. I have never really given much though to the answers as they seemed to be all over the place, but I finally found an answer that made sense and also wanted to share my impressions and experiences as well.

It Doesn't Matter!

Being probably the most common answer I have stumbled upon, it simply depends on how you look at things. It's the classic "Is the Glass Half Empty or Half Full" dilemma. The logic here is that if you write quality hubs, they will be picked up by the search engines and whenever you publish them doesn't really matter so long as your article is relevant when the web surfer actually gets to it in their own time frame. While I suppose this is correct, It also depends on how you approach writing. Are you writing to simply write something form the heart or are you writing something to generate traffic? It should be a healthy mix of both.

Publish During The Weekdays!

When I do my eBay slitting, I have a general rule of thumb that I tend to post listings Tuesday nights around 9 PM Eastern or so. Tuesday is pretty much the night everyone has off, and you're not competing with the exhaustion of Monday and the find of Fridays and the weekends. Maybe it's and old wives tale (is that even possible in the digital age?), but it has always tended to work for me. When it comes to writing online, I tend to follow similar patterns. Personally, half of my traffic comes from search engines and the other half comes directly from hub pages. The logic here is that you would post when people are online and reading to maximize your exposure. Until recently I had nothing to back this up until a friendly hubber actually pointed me to a site called Quantcast. This site measures the volume of traffic to many sites including hub pages. Statistically showing, traffic drops off on Friday, plummets on Saturday, and is still very low on Sunday. During the week it picks up. So rather than be buried in the hub feed of other hubbers with everyone else who posted over the weekend, the logic is to post during the week when people are actually online.

So What Do I Do?

If you check my publishing history, you'll see that it is really all over the place. I had noticed that over the weekends, I generated fewer impressions and had fewer readers overall. Again until I actually saw the statistics I didn't really know why. I have settled into a routine which I'm sure will be shattered once my newborn son arrives, but I have been and plan on continuing to post during the week day evenings. Since half my traffic is from hub pages, I want to maximize my exposure while I can, and then the "newness" of the hub wears off, the search engine traffic will help pick up a few readers here and there to help sustain my readership. So I suppose I'm trying to do the best of both worlds! While I'm not generating millions of views per day, my traffic is steadily rising, and hope to keep it that way.
